In 1963 another incomparable Hollywood couple, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, made a lasting impression while shooting "The Sandpiper," in Big Sur. They filmed the folk dancing at Nepenthe . . . Lolly and Bill's son Kaffe choreographed the dances.
This is how one of Lolly and Bill's grandchildren remembers it: "I was lying on my back on the terrace gazing up at the trees when a man appeared above me and lifted me up into the sky. It was Richard Burton - giving me my first kiss, and me still in diapers! Elizabeth Taylor came running out of the restaurant and wiped away my tears. My mother, who was sitting on the bleachers with her knitting, was too star-struck to say a word!"
